9.2. Public Report Folder Permissions

Currently in ART, you can create any assortment of folders in your public folder under your site name. The two other folders are write protected where you can not modify anything in these two folders. Template reports and documentation are located in these folders.

Most sites create a tree structure for their ART Viewer license hoders that mirror their agency such as each agency has its own list of reports that they are expected to run.

Concerning deletion, in August we had a rash of accidental deletions of folders and reports that could not be restored. We made the decision to disallow deletion of any items in the Public folder system. Here is a letter that was mailed to all ART users with access to the support portal:

Dear ART User,

There have been several cases of reports accidentally being deleted from ART installations. If deleted, there is no feasible way to restore the report from our backup repository. From several days of deliberation, we have decided to disallow all ad-hoc reporting users from deleting or moving reports from Public folders, even if you are the author of the report. The change will be effective on Friday, August 31, 2007.

You will still have the ability to delete or move reports in your Favorites folder. The ability to copy reports has not been affected by this change.

We will continue to work on a more long-term solution to this issue. If there are reports that need to be deleted from your Public folder, please contact your support specialist through the support portal at

http://www.bowmansystems.com/support.html.

If you have any questions or comments concerning this change, please feel free to contact your support specialist. All interactions will be routed to the appropriate individuals.

Thank you.

Bowman Systems

We plan in the future to have a more robust folder structure that mirrors the security of ServicePoint with defined user roles that extend past ad-hoc vs Viewer. If you have any reports you need deleted, please contact your support specialist and we will be more than happy to remove them from your site for you.
