2.1. Connecting to your Exchange Server

If your server has been configured for use with Windows Mobile and Windows Smartphone devices, then these steps are for you.

  1. First, click start, programs and select Active Sync from the list of available programs.

  2. You are going to configure this phone to use an Exchange Server.  If it presents you withoptions, select the one that says Exchange server.
  3. Enter your server details.  Note, do not use http:// or https:// when putting in the server address.  Deselect  the "This server requires and encrypted (SSL) connection".  This is not opening your password to clear text.  You are using a pssword protocol called Kerberos.  You will get a Security Warning, this is okay.

  4. Click next at the bottom.
  5. In the server settings screen, your username is what you use to log into the network or remote email server.  Your password is the same for that username.  Your domain should be set to your local Active Directory Domain, if you are unsure what this is, please contact your support rep.  You'll want to click on "Save password".

Click on the Advanced button (not next).  You'll want to set the device so that the server won't inadvertentlyreplace items on the system, so select "Keep the item on my device".  You also should set the Event logging mode to Brief so that it will give some indication to your support people should the system fail.  Click Next.

  7. You may set some custom options for email and calendar.  To do so click on calendar so its highlighted, then clieck the Settings... button.  Do the same for Email.

  8. Calendar options, I like to choose 1 month in the past.  This means I can use my PDA device to check my past appointments for up to 1 month.  It will include all future appointments always.  Click the OK button when finished.

  9. Email options.  I have the system download a week's worth of email and download all the text.  I only download attachments if they are under 15K.  This doesn't mean if won't download attachments, it just won't do it without you telling it to unless you use this setting.  When you're done configuring email options, click the OK button at the top right.

  10. When you're done configuring your options, click the Finish button at the bottom.  The phone should then sync with your server.
